Is there some css I can use to both limit the length of the excerpt and remove it entirely.

You can use the excerpt_length filter to change the length of excerpts on your site:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Filter_Reference/excerpt_length

Here is how it’s done in the Twenty Eleven theme, for example:

Ah so that’s a function of my WordPress settings. I have them turned off on there but I guess they are being picked up on the mobile theme. I’ll check into that. Thank you!
