This is driving me crazy. I really want to use the Post By Email feature within Jetpack and I have generated by private email address through WordPress.com. I have sent mail to the address from a couple different accounts, and it never comes into my private WordPress web site (either in pending or actually posted).

What could I be doing wrong? Anyone have any ideas on where to start?

I see some other Post by Email posts, but they aren’t related (I think).

    Question for @mlazopoulou

According to my cpanel, my server is running PHP version 5.3.21
However, I still can’t get Jetpack’s post by email to work

Is there somewhere in my WordPress set-up I can go to set the default version…or someway to be sure my server is running what it says it’s running?

Hoping your fix can work for me, too, just not sure how to implement it

    Hi,

Is there a way as an administrator to authorize other users (authors) to post via e-mail?

On my profile page there is a generate e-mail address button but there isn’t such a button to all the other users.

    Thank you.

Once you activate the Post By Email module, all registered users with publishing privileges will be able to use Post By Email. They will see a button mentioning “Enable Post By Email” on their profile page.

If you do not see such button, could you contact us via this contact form so we can have a closer look?

    Thanks!

Can’t seem to get Jetpack Post via email to work. It worked the first time I tried it, but then next time didn’t work anymore. Not sure why.

Have tried multiple times, ways, accounts, connect/enable toggling, clearing cookies, different machines, browsers, IP addresses, networks, etc. Is there something I can delete — a file or value in the MYSQL database perhaps? That will reset to the “out of the box” condition for WordPress that let it work the first time?

    PHP v 5.3.26

Never mind – unlinked and relinked. Now it works again.

I had many hassles with getting e-mail posting to work through Jetpack. I like the markup it allows so I’ll likely keep it. However:

It kept losing embedded images with plug-ins: photostream-sync (v1.0.3) and/or Secure HTML5 Video Player (v 2.5) — But it was not so much as that, it seemed that just the number of plug-ins might be a problem. (memory limits?)

Also, sometimes, the issue was with the jetpack server dropping something: I would get a nice e-mail mentioning the failure, but that was not much help in debugging or recovery. This bug is non-deterministic. As Miracle Max said: “Have fun storming the castle, kids.

    Keep up the Great Work!

Jeremy, can you clarify what you mean by “all registered users with publishing privileges” in your previous post? Does that mean all users with privileges on the WordPress site in question?

We have a WordPress site and are trying to get the post-by-email feature of JetPack working, too. I have an account on WordPress.com and was able to enable JetPack on our site and generate a publishing-by-email email address, but it seems I’m the only one who can use it. Or is that behavior by design?

Thanks for the help. WordPress rocks.

That’s exactly it. If you go to Users > All Users in your dashboard, everyone in that list who is not a “Subscriber” will be able to use Post by Email.

However, they’ll need to link their account to their own WordPress.com account to be able to use that feature. If they go to their Profile page, they’ll see a notice inviting them to do so:

Once they’ve connected to WordPress.com, they will be able to use Post By Email, as well as the Toolbar Notifications module if you have activated it on your site.

Ah. Gotcha. The way the documentation reads, it sounds as if anyone who has the address can post… (and that’s all that need happen)

    Appreciate the help.

Don’t mean to sound critical. (really) Just noticed that.

Well, that’s also correct. But I would really recommend against sharing your own Post by Email address with anyone. Doing so would be like sharing your log in credentials with someone: they will then be able to publish in your name.

I would recommend that you let each registered user use their own Post by Email address instead. This way, you keep control over your own PBE address, and no one will be able to publish a post in your name.

    Thanks Jeremy
While I understand the need for individual email addresses I have to say it’s slightly counter intuitive to require log-in to obtain these addresses as the kind of users I have will only post by email and refuse to login to the beautifully intuitive backend of WordPress 🙁

Please enable obtaining this address from Admin view, thanks!
