Help nothing I do is working and I can’t update my site. It is so frustrating. It tells me my IP address is Perth which it’s not.

I just want to remove Jetpack so this doesn’t happen again I’ve spent hours trying to resolve this issue!

    Thanks

    Stephanie

Sorry to hear that, Stephanie. If it’s showing an IP address, can you get that, along with whatever is at whatismyip.com, and add them both via WordPress.com?

Once you log into WordPress.copm, you can enter IP addresses here:
My Sites → Settings → Security → Prevent brute force login attacks.

Remember your username might be different from your regular wp-admin login, as it’s a separate account.

Hm, Jetpack seems to be seeing everyone visiting your site as the same IP. Probably a mis-configured reverse proxy on the server, but we have a way around that.

I made that change on our end, and it will take about 5 minutes to take effect. Please let us know how it is after that!

    Hi James,

It didn’t work but I have managed to get my IT guy at work to get me in. We had to add what we can only assume is the Jetpack proxy server ip address to the whitelist to be able to access the log in page. Which is not where my computer is. I’d love to know what Jetpack is going to do to fix it as it’s not ideal if Jetpack is recognizing other people’s computer with the same IP address.

    Thanks for your help

It’s a bit the other way around, Jetpack doesn’t have a proxy server IP address, rather that’s either your server’s IP address or your reverse-proxy’s IP address (things like Cloudflare, Sucuri, or even server-level caching like Varnish are reverse proxies that everything passes through before hitting your server).

So, whitelisting that IP address is as good as switching off Jetpack’s Protect module. 🙁

We’ll need a bit more to dig into this, so please reach out to us via https://jetpack.com/contact-support/?rel=support
