iTunes Category not available

Hello, I have the same question as described in this post: https://forum.blubrry.com/index.php/topic,6735.0.htm

and note your response that a sub category must be selected for Society and Culture. However I see other podcasts with the Society & Culture as their category, they have been able to use the top level category and not had to select a sub-category.

An example is: https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/new-dimensions/id1143756294?mt=2
and: https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/the-classic-metal-show/id295946198?mt=2

How can we set the category in PowerPress to just Society & Culture? It seems an oversight top level categories are not available for selection in PowerPress?

Is a work around to contact iTunes to update our category? Then how to prevent an overwrite from Powerpress feed sync?

I have asked the lead developer of PowerPress to take a look at your question. He’s very busy this week with some big projects but he will reply as soon as he can.

The developer of PowerPress says he has confirmed with Apple that what you’re requesting is possible and that it will be added to a future version of PowerPress. Right now, you can select only the top level categories with the subcategories. There’s no way to select just the top level category.

Thanks for the update, its good to know this is possible. Do you have an estimated time frame for when this enhancement will be available in the PowerPress plugin? I am sure there are many additional features being requested of the development team, is it possible to raise the priority of this request?

I am working hard this week to get this minor release out, but I have applied the changes for the iTunes categories to the dev version. If you want to download and install it manually it is available here: https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/powerpress.zip

I’ve installed and we are using the new top level categories for our recent launch which was super important to get into the right category for our podcast so thanks so much for providing this feature!
