Recently (over the past two or three months, a website which I manage has an issue when iThemes security updates when it writes to the .htaccess file. It doesn’t complete the update and leaves the .htaccess file broken which in turn stops the whole site from working. To temporarily stop the situation from happening, I have changed the permissions on the .htaccess file to 444 so it can’t be updated. It is happening to one site in particular and none of the others.

    The details are:
I can provide the following screenshots if necessary showing the issue:
    1. The status of the live website when the issue happens
    2. The screenshot showing the current permissions of the .htaccess file
    3. The .htaccess file – after iThemes has started writing to it, the last entry is as it is unfinished.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks.

    Hi @graffiq,

Could you please try to remove the first half of the IP’s that are in the ban list and check to see if that resolves the issue? Also, would you be able to look at your server error logs the next time this occurs, to see if there was any associated server downtime?
