I have plenty of web space as part of my Suddenlink account. I’d like to avoid extra fees from a host such as BlueHost.

How much trouble is it to use Suddenlink web space for hosting a wordpress site? I’m an ex-programmer, but I’m not up on recent things. I made an initial stab at it, and it wasn’t pretty. Suddenlink has non-existent support for things like this.

Hi Al,

I have no idea if I have the correct Suddenlink. If I do, it would appear to me that you are not capable of installing WordPress in your Web Space area.

Suddenlink Personal Web Space does not support any server-side scripting languages such as PHP, ASP or Perl, nor does it have Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions enabled.

To run WordPress your host just needs a couple of things:
- PHP version 5.2.4 or greater (recommended: PHP 5.4 or greater)
- MySQL version 5.0 or greater (recommended: MySQL 5.5 or greater)

Does suddenlink meet the WordPress server requirements?

WordPress needs more than just space on a host, namely PHP and MySQL …

Is there any provision to create a MySQL database ?

Too make it all real easy, you can get a WordPress site for free, already built, on http://WordPress.com
