Incorrect user selection box
-
I just moved to a new hosting provider and in the move had deleted your plugin. Now the Send to (as well as the CC and BCC) are not providing the correct user selection. Instead of allowing me to type in a name, it wants to give me a long list, but will not scroll through all the users.
I must have messed something up, but deactivating and uninstalling/reinstalling didn’t fix it.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks,
TJ

Hi @worthiejones,
Thanks for your message. It sounds like a potential plugin or theme conflict preventing some javascript code from loading on those inputs.
Please can you make your way through this document and let me know how you get on?
Thanks,
JackSince this is running on our current production site, it is a little tough to do that at the moment… Is there a way I can just add a specific email or user to a specific notification in the database until I can further diagnose this?
It does send a test message, it just won’t send to the correct user, since I can’t specify that correct user.
Hi @worthiejones,
The only other thing I can suggest is to try the above step-by-step on a staging version of the site instead. That way you can narrow it down but without causing issues on your live site.I’m fairly sure that’s the issue, or (but much less likely) an older version of PHP running on your server so it’s definitely worth doing this.
Thanks,
JackDidn’t help.
Ok. The issue is that I have over 200 users, but it is still displaying the drop down menu, so it may be something is over riding that somewhere. I know we had to add some code to allow another plugin to display up to 500 in a drop down. Could this be it?
Even if I choose a user that I can select (my admin user for example), it still will not send any notifications. I still think something else is broken or left over from the previous installation.
I setup the notification exactly as it worked on the old site, but nothing ever happens. Is there a cron or something that runs to check for these triggers. Maybe that is disabled or set differently.
Hi @worthiejones,
There is a limit of 200 users displayed in the BNFW User Role / User select boxes as it massively slows down the site after that. You can still type a user role or username in manually and they should show (providing that it’s rendering correctly) however.
There aren’t any crons but it’s possible that you’re hitting a sending limit or need to use an SMTP plugin instead. I’d recommend having a look through this document: https://betternotificationsforwp.com/documentation/getting-started/how-to-improve-email-delivery/
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
JackOk… I got it to work with a test notification of when any page was updated, so that part appears to be working. I changed the user one that fell within the first 200 users and was able to send it correctly.
Now the issue is that it is not being triggered by the Job Manager plugin as it used to. It is set to notify whenever there is a Custom Post Type – ‘Job’, ‘Job Pending Review’. I know that the E-mail is working between your plugin and our E-mail system setup based on the previous test, so it has to be this trigger now. It is strange because this has been working for a year on the old server.
Hi @worthiejones,
Did you update the Job Manager plugin when you moved hosting? It’s possible a recent update has caused the issue. Are you using an SMTP plugin for email delivery?
Thanks,
jackI can’t tell for sure when that was last updated, but the problem definitely started after the move. We use PostMan SMPT for E-mail. E-mail and notifications are working correctly from your plugin, just notifications are no longer working from WP Job Manager.
Hi @worthiejones,
WP Job Manager was last updated a week ago by the looks of it. If you downgrade to the previous version, does this resolve the issue for you? Thanks,
JackI now have it back working. Going back a WP Jobs version did change the user selection back to show user search in your plugin… however it now doesn’t work, at least it won’t search all users correctly.
I think the issue was the trigger was not set correctly since the update, but the view users is still an issue that I would love to resolve. I can work around it for now.
Thanks.
Hi @worthiejones,
If it’s an issue on larger sites only (200+ users) I’d love to get it resolved too.Are you able to provide a video showing the issue your facing so that I can better understand?
Thanks,
JackThe video link below show me starting to type. I wanted to select a user name Kelsey, but it won’t get past the roles and never sees the actual users.
Thanks for looking into this.
TJ
Hi @worthiejones,
Thanks for the video. It looks like there’s two issues occurring here – the first is that the selection box is overlaying the input so you can’t see what you’re typing.
The second is that you can’t type a user for them to show.
I’ll note it as a bug and will investigate further.
Thanks,
JackThis should now be fixed in the latest release, available shortly.
Please have a read through the Changelog for anything that may effect you. Thanks,
Jack
