IMDb info will not load
-
Hi again, Been a while. Can you help me again?
I have film reviews on my site. It’s set up so IMDb info will display (via your plugin) in the right hand sidebar on any film that has a star rating. Star rating should equal IMDb info (and usually does).I just can’t get the IMDb stuff to load. Have recently updated WordPress to 7.0.2 (from 6 point something) and gone from php 8.0 to 8.1.
If I click on a post via any of the pages (Reviews, Features, See This etc) it loads OK, but without the IMDb info.
If I click on a post on the Home Page (which lists the 12 most recent posts), it won’t load at all, and eventually an error message comes up – a request timeout. If I then deactivate Lumiere, the post loads.
Not sure where to start here.
I have reset the settings but it didn’t help.
I tried to run a debug.log but it became massive. I downloaded 7.6GB of it but it went on to become 23GB. I had to turn it off.
I am on Chemicloud.
Thanks in advance.
Steve

Managed to open a debug log. There is a lot of this in it:

I believe IMDb is hardening the calls to its API.
I made a modification that seems to work. Would you mind trying with the development version?Hi JCV,
Loving the fast response. The development version has fixed the main problem. The widget is now there, but there is no picture and it is the same movie info on every page. Somehow the Movie ID (which is how I call the info) in nearly every case has been overwritten with the ID 2271565, which is Rape Zombie: Lust of the Dead, or has disappeared altogether.
If I expand the custom fields I can see that the right code is there on the page, in the lumiere_widget_movieid field, but it’s not in the widget box where it should be. (I’ll try and upload a screengrab).
Is there a way of copying the value from one field to the other with a fancy bit of code, or do I have to re-enter everything by hand (3,000+ posts)?
ThanksSteve

This should have been migrated at least a year ago, your site having this old data doesn’t make sense. It hasn’t been working for you for quite a while.
Possible solution to update: If you 1/ want to migrate the widget, 2/ the widget always uses the movie id, 3/ you saved 3 times your database and have checked you can restore the database in case of problem,
=> you may put this code in your theme/functions.phpfunction migrate_lumiere_widget_meta() { if ( ! current_user_can( 'manage_options' ) ) { return; } $args = array( 'post_type' => 'any', 'posts_per_page' => -1, 'post_status' => 'any', 'meta_query' => array( array( 'key' => 'lumiere_widget_movieid', 'compare' => 'EXISTS', ), ), ); $query = new WP_Query( $args ); if ( $query->have_posts() ) { $migrated_count = 0; while ( $query->have_posts() ) { $query->the_post(); $post_id = get_the_ID(); $movie_id = get_post_meta( $post_id, 'lumiere_widget_movieid', true ); if ( ! empty( $movie_id ) ) { update_post_meta( $post_id, '_lum_form_type_query', 'lumiere_movie_id' ); update_post_meta( $post_id, '_lum_movie_id_widget', $movie_id ); delete_post_meta( $post_id, 'lumiere_widget_movieid' ); $migrated_count++; } } wp_reset_postdata(); wp_die( sprintf( 'Migration complete! Processed %d posts.', $migrated_count ) ); } else { wp_die( 'No posts found with key "lumiere_widget_movieid".' ); } } add_action( 'admin_init', 'migrate_lumiere_widget_meta' );Visit any page in your admin pages (/wp-admin), this will migrate the old format to the new one and you’ll get a visual confirmation. If you have an old webserver, it may be better to replace ‘posts_per_page’ => -1, by ‘posts_per_page’ => 500, which will process by 500 posts batch. Once you have the visual notification that “No posts found with key “lumiere_widget_movieid”, you can remove the code from functions.php.
However, there is a caveat: when editing your posts, you won’t see straight the new Lumière widget setting. If you select under “Display items in widget” => “by movie title”, then “by movie id”, the movie id number will be displayed. You have to click on save to keep it displayed. I believe this is due because of the way I manage the edition with Lumière, and I may fix this in the future.
But before doing any test, save your database. Don’t lose 3000 posts!
Hope it will work.
Hi JCV,
Thanks for the fix. Yes, very old version of plugin.
I tried your fix, with ‘posts_per_page’ => -1, replaced by ‘posts_per_page’ => 500
I’m getting this error.
Your PHP code changes were not applied due to an error on line 2322 of file wp-includes/class-wpdb.php. Please fix and try saving again. Allowed memory size of 1073741824 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 20480 bytes)
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Steve
If you’re still using an old plugin version, none of this or that should work. So I’m not sure whether it will help you, but I found a way that should address your server problem (you have a lot of code to parse, so let’s go incrementally) AND to display the widget value.
So you need to put back the database backup first, then add this in your theme/functions.php:
function migrate_lumiere_widget_meta() { if ( ! current_user_can( 'manage_options' ) ) { return; } $args = array( 'post_type' => 'any', 'posts_per_page' => 100, // Reduced batch size 'post_status' => 'any', 'fields' => 'ids', // make sure the new value is directly displayed 'update_post_term_cache' => false, // make sure the new value is directly displayed 'update_post_meta_cache' => false, // make sure the new value is directly displayed 'meta_query' => array( array( 'key' => 'lumiere_widget_movieid', 'compare' => 'EXISTS', ), ), ); $post_ids = get_posts( $args ); if ( ! empty( $post_ids ) ) { $migrated_count = 0; foreach ( $post_ids as $post_id ) { $movie_id = get_post_meta( $post_id, 'lumiere_widget_movieid', true ); if ( ! empty( $movie_id ) ) { update_post_meta( $post_id, '_lum_form_type_query', 'lum_movie_id' ); update_post_meta( $post_id, '_lum_movie_id_widget', $movie_id ); delete_post_meta( $post_id, 'lumiere_widget_movieid' ); $migrated_count++; } } wp_die( sprintf( 'Batch migration complete! Processed %d posts. Refresh to run next batch if more remain.', $migrated_count ) ); } else { wp_die( 'Migration fully complete! No remaining posts found.' ); } } add_action( 'admin_init', 'migrate_lumiere_widget_meta' );When visiting an admin page, a batch of 100 posts will be processed. Just wait until it’s finished, and do it again. If everything goes according to the plan, after 30 attempts, all posts should have been processed.
I tested it and this works, but I don’t have 3000 entries to reproduce a similar setting.
JCV, Genius work! Everything functioned like you said it would. There are no pictures though. Will they re-populate as the cache rebuilds (if that’s what I mean). Should I just wait or is there anything I need to do?
Don’t rush, it’s the weekend and you’ve already been brilliant.
Steve
I’m glad you solved your issue!
Pictures should be displayed immediately. Check on /wp-admin/admin.php?page=lumiere_options_cache&subsection=manage section “Photo path (relative to the cache path)” to see if you have permission issue. I suspect the cache folder /wp-content/cache/lumiere/images/ to have wrong permission so images can’t be saved.Hi JCV, Had to fiddle to get the pictures working. The “relative to the cache path” was wrong for some reason, and though it said in green letters “permissions ok” no pictures appeared until I went into the File Manager in CPanel and changed the permissions to 755. Suddenly everything is working as it should. So you were right about the permissions.
Thanks so much – amazing stuff.
Steve
Thanks so much for reporting back, @moviesteve ! I actually found a longstanding bug in imdbphp library (from the very begining, actually) and could fix it for the next version. The cache image folder was not created at the origin, and regular cache folder was created with wrong permissions.
So everybody is happy: you got the plugin working, and I fixed a bug.
Please keep for a little while your database backup; even I’m pretty confident about the code I shared, this is new, so we never know about potential side effects. Never dealt with 3000+ entries, so better safe than sorry.
Closing here, do not hesitate to create another topic should you need so.
since I can’t thank you on paypal… thank you here, @moviesteve !
