Updates of wordpress is important so you must update your website or blog as soon as you get notification about it.
Regarding 4.9 update, till now the only issue i noticed is, after update wp not able to recognise template files to overcome this issue one must install a cache plugin which is in GITHUB. Just download the file install it and clear cache. You will notice the template file read by wp.
