• since the big 2.0 upgrade it has been a massive memory hog. Looking for alternatives, sadly NextGen Gallery is just not a good plugin anymore.

*Updated June 2015: Props to the developers for their continued work and support on this plugin! The 2.0 upgrade was tough, but performance issues seem to be ironed out now. Thanks for all your work on NGG!

@bronw3n – Thanks for your feedback. How are you seeing NextGEN Gallery as a memory hog? Can you provide any specific examples?

my site is very very slow to load – there’s nothing special about the site (i.e. not a lot of plugins and no special functions) and it’s not highly trafficked. I’d heard complaints about the NGG slowing page load speed (there was even a third-party plugin to address this for the 1.x version https://wordpress.org/plugins/nextgen-gallery-optimizer/).

I ran the p3Profiler plugin, and sure enough, NGG is the culprit.

I love this plugin, was a huge fan of the 1.x version, but the way it slows down my site now is really bad. Makes it almost unusable at times.

@bronw3n – Although we are aware some sites will run slower with NextGEN Gallery active this is not necessarily the case for every site. As such, it can sometimes be something very specific to the site that is creating this slow down.

We also strive to make improvements with every release of NextGEN Gallery and we see the next few releases as having very significant improvements (at least on our test sites) which we hope will translate across all installations.

I hear you, but I cannot find a conflict on my site with NGG. The 1.x version was fine on my site, this version is very very slow. And I’m not alone in that complaint, unfortunately.

@bronw3n – You’re always welcome to send us a Bug Report (http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug/) if you are running the latest version and still see these slow loads … we may be able to help you improve those times.

@bronw3n – Just following up on some old reviews.

As you know this review was written following a major overhaul of the plugin in version 2.0. At this point, most of the issues related to that overhaul of the plugin have been long addressed.

In particular, we’ve pushed a lot of performance enhancements, especially in our latest releases.

I’m not sure if you’re still using NextGEN Gallery, but given the current performance of the plugin, a one-star rating seems a bit harsh, and we’re wondering if you might consider revising your rating?

Let us know if you have question. Thanks. (Erick)

Hi Erick! I’d definitely upgrade that rating to four stars now! I can’t see how to do that though.

Your latest updates have definitely made a huge difference. I know there were some growing pains with the initial 2.0 version, but they seem to be ironed out now. Thanks for keeping up with the development on this plugin!

@bronw3n – Obviously very glad to hear things are smoothing out for you, and that the latest performance updates are having a solid impact!

I think if you want to change it, just click https://wordpress.org/support/view/plugin-reviews/nextgen-gallery and scroll down to the bottom.

You should see your review there, and you should be able to select a new star rating by hovering over the stars.

Regardless, thanks for the updated feedback! (Erick)
