Hi, have the same problem, followed your advice above, no luck, still does not show thumbnail on Catalog page, only if I also set “featured image” Example:

Example scarf2 has no thumbnail, because I did not set featured image /
Now, if I set “festured Image” in the WP settings, it shows a large thumbnail on the cataloge page, BUT it also repeats the image on the product page showing 2 images… see “Tussah Scarf product” I only want 1 image on product page,
Any ideas?
Resolved this. When I added the Theme “Pinboard” thumbnails appear fine
