I think I found what I was looking for at
http://ultraunix.net after I posted a Quote Request at Webhostingtalk.com. Ultraunix seems to have good reviews, and their live chat support is good (so far) and a friend of mine said they rock. So I’ll sleep on it, and unless someone here has something terrible to say about them, I will go ahead and get my cheap webspace with ultraunix.
CitadelHost – got back to my pre-sales question a full one day later.
Serverplace and p4host – support request emails are sluggish. When I say sluggish, I mean it takes an hour or two. My previous host, http://icdsoft.com never took more than half hour to get back with a reply to the most demanding requests I made, and usually took 2-5 minutes to respond to simple queries that took no doing on their part. Icdsoft really rocks at $5. Just so that someone who comes here looking for a reliable, cheap, and dependable host knows.

My webhost Netfirms tends to listen to their customers, so I took the liberty to ask them if/when they plan to implement SSH/Telnet access.
I am an active member of the WordPress forums. Several members are looking for a host who provides 1gb of storage, plenty of bandwidth, PHP and MySQL, and SSH/Telnet access. Sadly, this host offers all of them but SSH/Telnet. We would like this to be implemented. Are there any current or future plans to implement SSH/Telnet access?

In about 45 minutes, I received a reply from them:
Hello Mark,
Thank-you for expressing an interest in this feature.
At the moment, there are no plans to support SSH/Telnet access. It has been added to our list of client requested features and may be included in a future service upgrade. Thank-you for your suggestion.
I also recommend http://lypha.com/.
1GB storage
60 GB data transfer
unlimited e-mail addresses
unlimited sub domains (i.e. blog.your-site.com)
shared SSL (but you can purchase your own)
It uses Control Panel, so you get a bunch of ready to install programs; like gallery, shopping cart, chat, forum, and WP.
24 months at $6.95/mo
48 months at $4.96/mo – however, it wasn’t a selection in the form
I had some problems with uptime at the start, but they moved all the bandwidth hogs off of the server and my uptime and speed is much better now. I host two sites off of the same account using an add-on domain (you get 2 with economy).

does anybody here use anything even close to 1 gig storage & 60gig/month? is it just a marketing ploy selling people capacity that they’ll only use in their dreams? a typical blog w/ few graphics uses what? <1gig/month? <100m/month?
Anonymous, photomatt.net runs up HUGE bandwidth bills. Just an example.
I host a gallery which is 600MB and the transfer on that one alone is about 7 GB a month, which is why I wanted in on a bigger hosting account.
If you are still sleeping on it, I highly recommend Equivity, I use them for everything, excellent and speedy service, SSH upon request, and are having a 50% off sale right now! 2/20 gigs for $12.50 a month, slightly more expensive, but all the extras and good service is worth it. Multi-domain resellers are 4/40 at $20 a month. Good luck!

I thought I would let you all know that I went with the XR2 plan on
http://ultraunix.net/offer/
It’s working fine for me, and now I can resell too. If someone’s interested, or has questions, let me know.
UltraUnix has online chat-help, the CEO is online most of the time on your chat tool of choice. I have had no issues so far. No downtime till now (3 days).
Aplus.NET just changed their hosting plans….very big improvement! I no longer need the Pro plan that they offer since they’ve added PHP and MySQL to their Solo XR plan, which by the way was rated #1 by CNET.
2Fargon:
Now that some time has passed, how is your new host doing?
Very good. They turned on wget for my ssh account (don’t ask me why it wasn’t already there!), and CVS too.
Support is very fast, and usually over one’s chosen instant messaging service.
You be nice to Whei-meng and you’re treated nice in return.
WHM is there for managing your client (reselling).
I am a satisfied customer, for sure.
