• I have used this plugin for a very long time. I used it for a college hockey site and it worked okay for a while. But NOTHING new has been done with this plugin for YEARS. No new features. No Gutenberg integration. No optimization for newer versions of WordPress. The only updates have been bugs and security. It has been dying a slow death.

I had been patching this plugin with custom plugins for a few years, but I finally gave up ad created my own plugin with AI coding. Something more custom for my site/audience. The interesting thing is that as soon as I deactivated this plugin, my server stopped maxing out the CPU several times a day. So this plugin has secretly been causing issues on my site for years.

So, I can not longer recommend for this plugin. It has been stuck on v2.7.x for over 6 years! It is clear to me that this plugin is just a DEAD END and not a real solution for the future.

@craigcotner Thank you for taking the time to share this, and for using SportsPress for such a long time.

You are right that SportsPress has not had many major new features in recent years. We have continued maintaining the plugin, fixing bugs, addressing security issues, and supporting users, but we understand that long-time users also want to see more feature updates, better Gutenberg support, and continued performance improvements.

I can understand why the plugin no longer felt like the right solution for your site, especially if you had been relying on custom patches to make it work the way you needed.

Regarding the CPU issue, SportsPress is a fairly advanced plugin and can involve a lot of data, statistics, events, teams, players, tables, and calculations depending on how it is being used. Because of that, performance can vary quite a bit depending on the site setup, hosting, data size, theme, settings, and other plugins. I do not want to assume the exact cause without looking into it more closely, but performance is something we know matters and will continue to pay attention to.

SportsPress is important to us, and we have been thinking carefully about where it needs to go next. Feedback like this helps us understand what long-time users need most, and where we should focus our attention going forward.
