• Greetings everyone,

I am coming up against a Google Auth Exception error when I try to authorise the GADWP plugin for the wordpress site I help to admin – digitalhumanities.otago.ac.nz . This site is on my University/College network, and probably behind a proxy – although I am unsure of the details as I am a librarian not an IT support person or a programmer!

I have read the documentation and followed the steps (or at least I thought I did), and am able to generate the access code via my google account. However when I paste that back into the ‘Access Code’ box in the plugin, it returns the following error:

2018-12-05 22:39:06: exception 'Google_Auth_Exception' with message 'Could not json decode the token' in /var/www/html/digital-humanities/wp-content/plugins/google-analytics-dashboard-for-wp/tools/src/Deconf/Auth/OAuth2.php:186

I am a relative newbie to both WordPress and Google Analytics, but have tried looking through the forum and googling the error without success. From reading other posts, I wonder whether it might be something to do with my institutional proxy.

Can anyone suggest a solution or something to try??

    Many thanks
    Alexander

  • Hi Alexander,

Yes, it’s probably that the website can’t connect to Google Analytics to grab the token using the access code.

I would suggest trying to install something like this plugin: core control to check external connections.

To figure out the exact error you’re getting, we need to log the outbound call and record the raw response getting sent back.

    1. Install & activate the core control plugin: http://cloud.supportally.com/1v0K1H2D0D04
    2. Activate the logger module: http://cloud.supportally.com/0J323G200d0c
    3. Enable logging, try authenticating into ExactMetrics, and then disable logging.
    4. And then let us know what the log data says exactly so we can diagnose the error message.

    Thank you,

    -Jay
