• When I attempt to save a draft of a post containing “/etc” I receive a 403 Forbidden page. When I change “/etc” to “/3tc” and save a draft, it is saved successfully.

Note that all text above is sans double quotes in the document I’m trying to save. It does contain backticks however.

Thanks for the report! Just to confirm, are you working in the Visual or Text editor? I attempted to reproduce this issue, but was unable to do so. I followed these steps:

    1. With Markdown enabled, create a new post
    2. In the Text editor, enter /etc (including backticks)
    3. Save a draft

Expected/Actual result: The post saved as a draft

Could you let me know the exact steps that you’re taking that result in the issue? Just let me know, and we can go from there!

I was in the text editor (not visual). Markdown is enabled in the Jetpack plugin.

I’m using “WordPress 4.6.1 running Adventurous theme”. Jetpack v 4.3.1.

I can reproduce this by adding the following line at the top of my post and clicking ‘Preview Changes’:

    #sysd=/etc/systemd/system/

NOTE: Not even using back ticks this time…

Error I get on the preview tab:

    “Forbidden

You don’t have permission to access /wp-admin/post.php on this server.”

Immediately removing the line and re-clicking ‘Preview Changes’ works as expected.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

Thanks for the additional information, Jeff. I’m afraid I’m still unable to reproduce this. I’ve tried from wp-admin as well as WordPress.com, using the exact text from your post.

To confirm, are you posting from WordPress.com or wp-admin? Just let me know, and I can ask our team to look into this further for you.

Thanks for clarifying. Could you try to deactivate all plugins on your site, and see if that resolves the issue? If it does, then activate them one at a time to determine which is causing the conflict.

If that doesn’t help, please rule out a theme conflict by temporarily changing your site’s theme to a default theme (such as Twenty Sixteen) and trying again.

The above will allow us to confirm/deny plugin or theme conflicts, so we can at least rule those out. Let me know how it goes, and thanks again!
