    I have these plugins installed:
    WP Google Maps version 6.3.12
WP Google Maps – Pro Add-on version 5.71

I followed the instructions for getting a Google Maps Javascript API. I created the API using my Google Admin account for a client for their website.

I added the key to the settings, which allowed me to open my map in the plugin (before the location field was not working). But when I open it by clicking Edit I get an error (this error also happens on the front end and no map shows on the back or front end):

This page was unable to display a Google Maps element. Please contact the site administrator. If you are the administrator of this site, please check the JavaScript console or check the following page for troubleshooting: http://g.co/mapsJSApiErrors

In Firefox debugging the error is:

Google Maps API error: Google Maps API error: UrlAuthenticationCommonError https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/error-message#url-authentication-common-error

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-google-maps/

  • I am getting the same error message…any suggestions.
It worked prior to the update just released.

    Hi there.

Please try disabling and deleting that API key, then creating a new one and let me know if this helps? This error has been known to occur occasionally from Google’s side as there is an apparent bug on their side.

Please let me know if this helps at all?

I fixed it. Here is what you need to do if you are experiencing this, or even if you’re not.

The directions say to add a referrer in this format:

    “*.example.com/*”

That is correct for URLs that use “www.” before the name of the site. But for those that don’t, like my website, an additional referrer needs to be added in this format:

    “*example.com/*”

NOTE: The second referrer is missing the “.” before the site name.

    That fixed it for me.
