I just discovered this plugin and it’s quite useful. I’m finding that it is incorrectly flagging as broken many, if not all, of my links to https://doi.org/* They usually get 403 Forbidden.

These are permanent links to scientific papers that are redirected to the correct page on the journal website. Perhaps doi.org sees the plugin as a bot it doesn’t like or something?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @jwmc

Sorry to hear you are having this issue.

It happens because the destination server may block the request.

The plugin will use your server IP to request the connection and check if the link is working, I tested some links from https://doi.org/ but it got the status 200, so it is possible the server IP is listed on the firewall.

For the ttps://www.jstor.org/stable/43214791?seq=1 I was able to replicate the 403, this is because the page is blocking the requests made from the plugin.

I checked some external services and got the same result, but on others, I had the 200 status, for this link I’m reporting to our developers so we can take a look and see if we can improve this on the future, but, I’m afraid we can’t give an estimated time.

In case the reported links are false positive, you can use the option no broken for those links.

Let us know if you have any additional question on this.
    Best Regards

    Hi @jwmc

I took a closer look at the https://www.jstor.org/stable/43214791?seq=1

All link services actually show this as 403, https://monosnap.com/file/J2Yhkvu7jSzekNKgE8lSbEjgdwYnqO
    https://monosnap.com/file/47TLaCuO956ZQMO9HvOX6IzXd08iTo

It is the destination server blocking the requests, I suggest adding those link as no broken, it will be available when you hover the link on Tools > Broken Link.

OK, thank you Patrick. The doi.org links are puzzling. I’ll have to investigate whether the server IP is blacklisted anywhere.

EDIT – Okay I checked several sites that will search for an IP on dozens of widely used blacklists. The server IP looks quite clean. For example here:
    https://www.ultratools.com/tools/spamDBLookupResult

My own internet service provider IP is listed 3 times (but all those lists have the same root domain). My hosts server IP is completely clean.
