We only just started using Forminator instead of the standard contact forms provided by WordPress last week. We had one form (on our Private Tours page (see link provided)) active while finalising the forms customisations. Yesterday I made duplications of the ‘Private Tours’ form and made slight changes to fit other criteria for the pages these forms would go onto within our website. I made submission tests and all worked well and good last night.

Today I was finalising the configuration between Forminator and Mailchimp and when I made a test submission I noticed that even though Forminator says that request was submitted successfully, the email did not deliver to either our admin (Gmail) nor the Mailchimp sign up list to the applicants email. Nothing appears in our spam folder either. I tried multiple times on different forms with different email addresses.

Is there something we have to do to ensure that we get all the emails, especially the one to our admin email?

    Thank you

    Hi @hiddeniceland

Sorry to hear you are having this problem.

There are different situations that can return this problem I checked your page and the form seems to submit just fine, and there are some troubleshooting that we can take to make sure everything is well configured.

First of all, make sure the MailChimp is also enabled on the Form and the Fields are mapped on Forminator > Form > integration:

    https://premium.wpmudev.org/docs/wpmu-dev-plugins/forminator/#mailchimp

If so, please go to the Forminator > Form > Submissions, check the Submissions to make sure it is showing on the plugin and the MailChimp status:

Kindly also export the form https://premium.wpmudev.org/docs/wpmu-dev-plugins/forminator/#import-export upload on Google drive and share the link so we can check the form configuration to confirm everything is correct.

    Hi Patrick,

Thanks for your help. So we seem to have sort of resolved this. We installed an SMTP plugin which is now ensuring we are receiving all email notifications.

Mailchimp is connected, and does seem to work. It will only send the subscription sign up list email the first time that email address fills out the form, not sending it on the subsequent form fill outs when that same email is used. Even if the person does not subscribe. We can figure that out with mailchimp later. Probably is fine to be set like this. The person doesn’t need to receive that mail multiple times.

But what is now happening since installing the SMTP plugin, it seems to be overriding the form settings and always having the form email coming from our own email address and name. We need to fix that, but I am not sure what I can change in the SMTP plugin settings without affecting the deliverability. I have reached out for help with this from the SMTP plugin developer forum.

    Thanks

    Hi @hiddeniceland,

Glad you were able to get the first issues resolved. In regard to the SMTP plugin settings, this will override what you set in Forminator unless the SMTP plugin has an option that does not enforce the from email and name so that Forminator’s settings do not get overridden.

Perhaps you can ask their plugin support if this is possible or use another SMTP plugin like in this plugin which offers the option to not enforce:https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/

    Hi Patrick,

The plugin I was using didn’t seem to have the ability to not allow it to force the from name change. So I downloaded the plugin you recommended. Which we then set up connecting with our existing sendgrid account and linking with the api key. The test email worked and all set up seemed to be fine.

I turned off the force from email function box, and then tried out doing a test the form. The form did not send the email and had an error with the SMTP plugin stating that the email failed as the from name couldn’t be verified as matching.

So when I turn back on the force from email tick box then form will send through an email to our inbox. But then we are back to the same problem, with the email coming from me (our own email address) as well as our name. Is there something else I need to be doing for this to work?

    Thanks again

    Hi @hiddeniceland,

Thanks for sharing this. Is it possible you currently have the other SMTP plugin installed and active? Perhaps any optimization plugins that modify JS assets of site?

Also, could you please export the form and share a drive link with us, so we can further test this?

    Best,

    Hi Jonathan,

    Thanks again for the help.

No I did deactivate and completely removed the old SMTP plugin, so that shouldn’t be an issue. I have also gone over any other plugins and it doesn’t appear that we have any optimization plugins active that would affect this.

Here is a link to the doc file of the export:

    Hi @hiddeniceland,

    Thanks for confirming.

I tested SendGrid on a demo site and was able to replicate the behavior. Checking further, it won’t be possible to modify the From name as this is not encouraged by SendGrid: https://sendgrid.com/docs/for-developers/sending-email/sender-identity/

Since the email sender has to maintain a good reputation to prevent emails from being sent to spam of the receivers, it enforces their from email and override anything set on any plugin.

Our Team is considering adding a notice under the From Email because most users can change it, but their mail senders can overwrite it.
