Emails broken after installing plugin

Hi,
I’m using your plugin to sync our users and to create a form. I have not enabled the option of transactional emails because we already have a SMTP service for that.
However, I realized that our emails stop working since I installed your plugin. I had to enable the transactional emails options to make emails work again, but I would like to keep using the other SMTP service for now.
Is this a bug of your plugin? We’re setting the SMTP details via a php filter in our theme.I’ve been reading this topic https://wordpress.org/support/topic/emails-broken-after-updating-to-version-3-0-8/ that seemed to be related but not completely, because I’m using the latest version of your plugin and the problem persists at my end.
