This morning, the template for our email notification was broken. The ‘Continue reading’ button is missing, and the main body text appears to be encrypted or garbled.

Interestingly, another site of ours sent out a notification this morning without any issues, so it seems the problem is specific to this post.

Has anyone encountered this issue before? Any advice on how to prevent it from happening again would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a screenshot of the email: https://ibb.co/RjbnCrr.

    Hi there, @nahbweb,

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble, but thanks for reaching out.

It’s a hard one to debug since, as you said, seems to be an issue affecting only that specific site. Can you tell us if the other site whose post notifications work well has the ‘Continue reading’ setting too?

We had a small glitch affecting the newsletter, but it didn’t show errors like the one you shared.

To avoid leaving any stones unturned should your error is connected to the aforementioned glitch, could you please do the following?

    • go to Jetpack > Settings > Newsletter
    • switch to Excerpt from Email Configuration For each new post email, include

Check if the issue persists when you publish another post.

Hope it helps! Let me know what you find out, and we’ll take it from there if necessary. Thanks!

    @erania-pinnera,

Thank you for the advice. We published another post today, and the glitch happened again. We have yet to change our settings to excerpt, but we will do so today.

We don’t want to risk sending another email with a glitch. Can we test the notification before it goes out to our subscribers? Thanks!

    Hi there,
Yes, you can test the email notification before posting a new post. When you finish writing your post you can click on “Publish” on the Block editor to see the publishing option. You can check the “Newsletter” option and select “Send test email”.

Let us know how it goes.

@chatoxz Is the test email notification option available on the free version of Jetpack? I don’t see that option on my screen. See screenshot: https://ibb.co/DQR4KP8

    Thanks.

    Hi @nahbweb

Do you see the paper plane icon top right next to the jetpack icon? If you click that you should see the newsletter options and the ability to send a test email?

@mikemayhem3030 Thank you for your help! I found the option.

Hello, We have changed our newsletter settings as suggested, but we continue to experience the same glitch with our newsletter notifications. The text appears garbled. One improvement, the Continue reading button has returned, but the comment button has disappeared. Can someone please help?

    Thank you.

Could you please share the screenshot again? Can you confirm that Comments are enabled on your post?

    Thank you!

@pehaa Here is the screenshot from the first glitch on October 10: https://ibb.co/RjbnCrr.

After we changed the email configuration settings to excerpt, as suggested, the glitch now looks like this: https://ibb.co/GkZRRsb.

Comments are enabled on our posts.

Hey @nahbweb – thanks for sharing the screenshots!

Generally the comment option doesn’t show in newsletter if the post comment is disabled. Could you please go to WP Admin » Settings » Discussion section again and make sure “Allow people to submit comments on new posts” option is enabled?

You can disable and enable comments for individual post from the post editor as well so if the comment on the site is enabled but it is disabled for any individual post, then in that case also the comment option won’t appear in newsletter. Before publishing any post please make sure comment for that post is also enabled in the right sidebar of the editor settings.

Looking forward to your reply on how it went. 🙂

    Thank you @bizanimesh,

I will check the settings, but how does that fix the garbled text? We don’t care if the comment button shows or not. But we do need to fix the text so our subscribers can read what we are sending to them.

Can you tell us why the text of our post is not showing in the newsletter? We have been dealing with this glitch for almost four weeks.

    Thanks!

I apologize, I missed addressing your this issue.

Generally this kind of issue appear if you are using any Block in the editor which is not supported by Jetpack Newsletter but seeing your site it does appear you are using Paragraph Block in the post editor so Block doesn’t looks like an issue here.

In order to check if any other plugins/theme are not creating the issue, I know it’s less than ideal, but could you please temporarily deactivate all plugins (don’t delete them) except Jetpack and then switch your site to default WordPress theme like Twenty Twenty-Four and then try to send a test newsletter again with only text on the post (you can use Paragraph Block to add just text on the post).

Let me know how it went!

    Hi @bizanimesh!

Thank you for the quick reply! Unfortunately, this group is still using the classic editor. They are using the plugin Classic Editor. So we are unable to send a test email. It was working fine until it wasn’t. Do you still recommend uninstalling all plugins and changing the default theme?

    Thanks!

    Hi @nahbweb,

Since you’re using the Classic Editor and test emails aren’t an option, I understand the hesitation to go through plugin and theme deactivation. While it’s not ideal, as @bizanimesh mentioned previously, it’s the best way to pinpoint any conflicts. Given that it was working before, this can help us find if recent updates might be the cause.

    Hi there, @nahbweb,

Do you have updates about that, do you still need help? We usually close inactive threads after one week of no movement, but we want to make sure we’re all set before marking it as solved. Thanks!
