Doesn't work anymore with a certain plugin
-
Hi,
This plugin used to work ok for a specific widget that I could never get to position properly on my page.
The widget/plugin is here https://wordpress.org/plugins/calotor-calorie-calculator/
The widget always outputs at the top of the page rather than below the page content.
Using your plugin worked so that I can call the widget to appear at the page bottom………..until recently. Something changed and now it doesn’t work anymore.

It must still be a problem with that widget
https://wordpress.org/support/view/plugin-reviews/calotor-calorie-calculatormust be a bug in there somewhere.
Multitude of other widgets work fine.
But it was working just about 2 months ago. Why would it not be working now? I saw that he updated his plugin and you also updated your plugin, so somewhere along the way, it broke.
I hope you could do some testing on this plugin and see if you can do anything about it? All you need to do is download and activate on your test page and you will see what I mean. It goes to the top always.
The author for that plugin very rarely updates his plugin, but still, it’s the only one of its kind (calorie counter) in WordPress.org that is free.
In life you tend to get what you pay for…..
That said: Read that plugins description – it’s a few lines long and let me give you a hint it says “shortcode” somewhere in it.

I think you did not test it, but I did use the shortcode. By itself, the shortcode makes the display go UP and the only way to make it go DOWN, is to use another plugin that will “contain” the shortcode.
It is up to you, to test it. But please don’t mark it as resolved, when it is not….
I know you would have more incentive to troubleshoot it if that plugin had more users/installs….I completely understand. Again, your choice.
Thanks.
Bliss,
I am very puzzled at your expectation that I should be in any way responsible for that other persons plugins code or spend any more of my time getting it to work for you for free.I did use up some very valuable time to download and test with that plugin, just in case. I even spent time to look at the code. The problem lies there – containing” it in another plugin is NOT the answer.
That ‘calorie plugin’ is a very short (quick & dirty style) plugin using deprecated code. It is seriously just a few lines of html code and a few more lines of js. It is dumping the javascript in the function code. For a shortcode to work (a shortcode is basically a filter – ie a substitution), it should return the js code as part of the shortcode return value. wrapping it in more plugins or shortcodes is meaningless. It may have other problems too. The problems are in the other plugin. Using my plugin is not going to help – it is not a magic bandaid.
From the point of view of this plugin, the question is resolved. It is not the place to address problems with other peoples plugins.
I suggest you say thanks to that developer for providing a starting point for free and then Pay someone else to either fix it and/or tell you how to add the html and js to a page directly.
