Does this work with html / page caching?

I use a varnish cache in front of WordPress (my provider is gandi.net Simple Hosting, but wpengine or Pantheon have it the same way).
Together with this vanish cache I use https://wordpress.org/plugins/varnish-http-purge/. But it would be the same with something like w3tc with page cache. Gives a huge performance boost I do not want to miss…
May question is whether this plugin works with html cached pages? Say, by using wordpress page fragments that a loaded by ajax or similar technics. In particular, displaying the correct numbers might be difficult.
