• Hi,

I’m a total noob when it comes to WordPress and I have a friend who I’m helping to update his site. The people who built his site did it in WordPress and are using a custom theme (based on Starkers).

I cannot get RVM to work on this theme, however when I change the theme to another theme like (Twentyfourteen, Twentyfifteen, etc) it works just fine.

I’ve spent the past couple of hours trying to figure out the difference but have come up empty-handed.

Can you help point me in the right direction?

    Hi,

    thanks for contacting me !

It’s difficult to say without having a page to check. What you can try yourself is checking the console of Firebug ( an add-on for Firefox ) if it gives some errors.

Furthermore, what you can try is checking if your theme has known issues with Custom Post Types, used by RVM to generate the maps.

Let me know if it helps,

    cheers and good luck

    Great job of a plugin!

Just installed it and did quite a few tests, but failed to make the map load. I suspect it might be because the theme I’m using is a variation of “Twenty Fourteen”. Always thought the changes I did were really minor & cosmetic, seems like not.

The version of WP I’m using is 4.1.1. The page is http://www.preciosmwh.com/rvm/1083/ The map is ok while editing it, but already when I want to see the preview before publishing, it does not show up, nor does it appear after publishing.

If it helps going through any of the WP files, let me know at ferranrius@yahoo.com which ones would you need to see.

Many thanks for your excellent work!

    Hi FerranRius,

    glad you solved it !

If you can, please share what did the job for you.

From my side what I can say is you need to use map shortcode in order to see the map into a post / page .

    Thanks for using RVM.

    Hi Enrico,

apologies I did not reply any sooner, I’m a total rookie when it comes to WP & CSS. Again, congratulations, it’s an excellent pluggin, I’m using it in http://www.preciosmwh.com. I still have to figure out the exact http links I’ll use. May I please ask…

    a. Will you consider at some point a map of Latin America & Caribbean?

    b. will it be possible in future that country links point to wordpress pages/posts?

    Many thanks

    Hi,

    thanks for sharing your website.

At first question, I have no answer at the moment.
Regarding the second one sounds a bit weird… it already does it πŸ™‚

And you’re already doing that: i.e. clicking on Brazil you land on http://www.preciosmwh.com/category/br/. Just change this link with a post or page links and you get what you need… or not ?

Let me know and have a good day !

    Hi Enrico,

Appreciated your comments. Unfortunately I did not formulate properly my question (b.) above, my mistake. Indeed I can point to a page/post.

What ideally I would like to do is to change the table of tweets on the right hand side of the homepage (http://www.preciosmwh.com/) depending on the country the user selects on the map on the left. Please note some countries do have their own page/posts with data & table of tweets (e.g: Brazil) while others do NOT have a page/posts but do have a table of tweets (e.g: El Salvador); in other owrds, all countries do have table of tweets, but only some (those in the main menu) have pages/posts. I would like to link RVM not to the pages/posts but to the table of tweets.

That table of tweets is a widget made with Tablepress which reads a different CSV file for each country. I would assume what I am asking is the RVM selection changing the active widget, which I am not sure that is feasible at all, is it?

May I please ask something probably less tricky, let’s call it question (c.): is it possible the world map loads centered & zommed already into a specific area? The idea is I would like to avoid the user to do so when accessing Latin American countries (particularly the small ones), the rest of the map is not relevant in my site but keeps occupying the vast majority of the layout.

Many thanks again for your excellent plugin (and your patience)

    Hi Ferran,

ok, now I see what you mean but is not possible: RVM is designed for linking to URI resources, no javascript functions can be placed into them.

To come to question number c: neither this is possible. The problem could be overcome using a different map with just countries you need.

    Sorry.

Thanks anyhow Enrico, whenever there is a map of Latin America please let me know!
