I’m wondering about this as well, before I install the plugin.
Will it acknowledge custom fields if I simply create my own apply them to the catalogue’s post type?
I eventually found a plug-in called Advanced Custom Fields 4.3.2
I also added a plug-in called Ultimate Product Catalogue and the two together worked well for me.

Great solution for non programmers. For developers you should be able to easily add new custom fields – the wp catalogue is built on a fairlu simple custom post type.
