• Hi – VERY new to this. Had the website created two years ago and made a few changes in between.

Tried to go to the website today and I’m getting a Critical Error – “There has been a critical error on this website.”

When I login to GoDaddy and try to Edit Website, I get the same error message.

It says an email was sent to the admin inbox (I think it’s referring to my gmail) but I haven’t gotten anything.

    Please help! TIA.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

The reason for the error should be visible in the error log. You can find it in your hosting area. If necessary, the support of your hosting can help you.

Alternatively, you could also enable debugging in WordPress. How to do this is described here: https://developer.wordpress.org/advanced-administration/debug/debug-wordpress/ – also here the support of your hosting can help you if necessary to edit the file accordingly.

In both cases you should be able to see what the cause is in the logfile.

    Thanks for the response.

I did see this message popup in GoDaddy – could this be it?

    HOw would I fix it?

I’m not sure which message you’re referring to. If you have questions about GoDaddy notifications, it’s best to contact their support team. If you’d like to post a screenshot here, see: https://wordpress.org/support/forum-user-guide/block-editor/#adding-screenshots

When I visit the website I see it functioning Ok. Are you getting “Critical error” when trying to access backend or on any specific page on the frontend?

I ended up calling GoDaddy and had a previous version restored, so it’s working for now.

    To answer your questions:

I was getting critical errors first on the backend, then a few days later when I tried to open the website normally.

When I check my plugins, they all look updated, but there are 4 that stand out (plugins that cannot have auto-update enabled):

    -Brote Theme Addon

    -CMB2 Conditionals

    -CMB2 Field Type

    -Site Assistant

I can visit the plugin site for both CMB2 Conditionals and CMB2 Field Type so those seem okay.

But the Brote Theme Addon plugin site is totally dead (layerdrops.com).

I also did have issues with it previously. When I tried to duplicate a page, I would get a janky “Brote Theme” header that completely messed up my duplicated page.

So, I’m wondering if this is what caused the critical error issue.

It’s great that it’s working again. As described above, you can check the log file to see what might have caused the critical errors. If you want to know what it was, take a look there.

We’re just on a restored version; I’m pretty sure the plugin is still not functioning correctly.
