Coupon Restriction

The coupon code field that we have needs to restrict or reject invalid coupon code. And with an invalid coupon code and if the entry is not yet paid, the entry should not be submitted.
Right now no matter what we submit it still links to Paypal with the full price.
Any idea how to restrict this?
Also when there is an entry submitted, we are not getting email notifications.
We have used the default setting with admin address.
