I was trying to follow directions from http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory to redirect from a pre-existing subdirectory to the root directory. I made a mistake in the index.php:in copying, adding a line, and moving it. Now I cannot access the site nor the wp-admin.

    My install is at: im.mikediane.com/wp
The root directory I was trying to use was: im.mikediane.com
I had changed the site address on the General panel.

    Can anyone please help?
    Thank you,
    Diane

I changed the functions.php in Filezilla and saved the file. I’ve logged out of admin and logged in again about a half dozen times. I also cleared my browser cache. I’m still getting the 505 error.

The general settings are correct too.

You hit the spam queue and I’ve released your posts. I’ve also deleted your duplicate topic too. 😉

From post 36 of this topic 3 days ago:

The /wp-login.php aka /wp-admin (dashboard) is a much more complex url than the / (public facing website).

In other words, when logging in to dashboard there are authentication methods and sometimes various internal core redirects in place, which are not present when simply viewing the site.

For these reasons I believe it is easier if not also important first to troubleshoot and repair the / url public facing site. Further, I expect when the public facing site is repaired, the dashboard login also will have become repaired with no additional effort.

In other words, don’t even bother try to log in when it’s not possible to view the site: http://im.mikediane.com/ … Does this make sense?

Do you think perhaps it makes sense to attempt return your site to its last known good working state?

I read your last post last night. I have tried the link this morning and the site still gives as 500 server error message.

Maybe the only thing we can do is go back to the original set up. But I have to admit, I’m scared to try it.

You see, I’m able to get to the admin page. Everything is there. It is just the site is a blank page. You said it was harder to get the admin working, but it is working.

I don’t think it is working 100% correctly. Didn’t you say you are not able to draft/publish a new post?

I believe everything you need to fix everything 100% is within post 67 and post 59 of this topic.

I briefly saw your question about whether I had looked again at post # ?. I couldn’t see how to find those posts. Now I don’t see that last post in my topic view.

I could not post to this topic. I’m sorry, I didn’t make that clear. It turns out I had been sending too many messages and got relegated to the spam folder.

I can work in the admin page.

The spam issue is resolved, you presently are posting to the topic.

There’s 30 posts per page of the topic. And roughly 2 and a half pages in the topic. The posts are numbered at the far left.

I just wrote and posted a test post. It published. I can see it in the database using cpanel-phpMysql
