• Hi I just switched theme and lost my header categories. These were set up as pages in my former theme and are still present on my dashboard. When I go to pages on my dashboard all the pages are still there but they no longer appear on my header. How do I put these categories back? Thanks all.

  • Just go to Appearance > Menu and select the menu again.

FYI my categories are About, Contact me, Sponsor and Giveaway. when I go to my pages in new theme all the hyperlinks are still there to point to right place. I just don’t know how to get these categories to display at the top of my blog. It has something to do with changing themes as they disappeared when I did that.

Yes, is the menu set up under Appearances > Menu?

yes when I go to appearances -> Menu I see my pages on the left hand side. I selected them all and then add to menu. I then saved menu. But when I go to my blog I have no header categories. Do some themes not allow header categories.

    The menu page states this:
The current theme does not natively support menus, but you can use the “Custom Menu” widget to add any menus you create here to the theme’s sidebar.

I don’t want it in the sidebar I want them to be header categories. So am I supposed to use a different way. The above quote from the page is talking about the sidebar

What theme is this? If it doesn’t support custom menus, then no, you can’t set up menus that way.

I’ve tried EVERYTHING and at this point just want to delete all my pages and start over. Is there an easy step by step directions somewhere on how to add header categories to wordpress.org? With wordpress.com all I did was add a page with a link inserted and it appeared at the top of my blog. Doesn’t seem to be this simple with wordpress.org. I only have a few so I can easily just do them over from scratch.

Not with that theme – as you posted, it evidently does not support custom menus. Where did you get that theme?

If it’s this one, it’s 4+ years old – you’d really be better off finding a current theme that’s supported.

To add more detail when I go to my pages page and click view on my pages (contact me, sponsor, giveaways and about) It properly brings me to the page so the link is working perfectly fine. All I need is an easy way to make these 4 categories appear in the header as header categories. So far I tried adding these pages to the menu and saving. I also tried creating custom menus with the links and saving. Neither did anything. The category didn’t appear anywhere. I am using the Grassland theme. Does this support header categories?

my page is http://www.crazy4subscriptionboxes.com by the way

See my post above – you really need to find a current theme – you’re likely to have increasing compatibility issues with a theme that outdated.

I got the post from your website. I went to themes and narrowed down by the color green and found it there. So there are themes that don’t allow header categories?

Perhaps you should delete old themes from wordpress.org. It’s called grassland and is from your website. I’ll try another theme

Please see the page for that theme –

Ok I just selected another theme and still don’t see any header categories. Before I assume I found another old theme can you confirm I am following the right method. After activating the theme I did the following:

    Went to Appearance -> menus
Found my pages in the middle left of the menu page
selected all pages I wanted then selected add to menu
    saved menu
    refreshed blog

Header menus still not present. Am I doing the right process to get header categories or just my luck I found another bum profile?
