    Hi,

I have two separate “blogs” on one WP install (they are related topics for the site). So using the categories feature I was able to accomplish that. Now I want to customize the sidebar so only the posts for each respective “blog” (category) shows in the recent posts and archives listed in the sidebar of that blog. (The two separate “blogs” are showing in my nav menu.)

It seems the custom sidebars plugin would allow you to accomplish that, but I can’t figure out how to make it work. It ignores the category selections and includes posts and archives from both categories in the sidebar – even when I create a custom sidebar for each separate category/blog and designate per the “visibility” feature offered with Jetpack to show only those posts in a certain category… and set up the sidebar location to choose the particular custom sidebar as well.

    Please help!

  • Hello Susan,

I’m not sure if we are on the same page here, but are you using default WordPress widgets like: Recent Posts and Archives?
Those widgets will always show all posts from all categories. Custom Sidebars will not “force” them to show posts from only one category.
What you need it plugin to show recent posts by category. Like this one https://srd.wordpress.org/plugins/recent-posts-by-category-widget/

When you have this widegt then you create custom sidebars that will show on posts and archives (each for one category) and then on those sidebars place new widgets – one that shows posts from one category and one for second.

Custom Sidebars are not controlling what shows in widgets – they control what widgets are showing on different pages, by placing them on sidebars with custom locations.

    kind regards,
    Kasia
