I have installed the plugin. But how do I get the breadcrumbs to show in posts? Is there any short code or do I to add something to the code in single.php or something else?

There is no short code in the core plugin (short codes have been deprecated), you can either use the included Gutenberg block, widget, or call bcn_display() in your theme file (some examples are available in this article: https://mtekk.us/archives/guides/calling-the-breadcrumb-trail/).
