Activating for Custom Post Type creates error 'item does not exist'

I’ve added Post Expirator to custom content type I registered and it causes the following error when publishing:

‘You attempted to edit an item that doesn’t exist. Perhaps it was deleted?’

I am able to publish the content type when I have the plugin deactivated for it via settings. Any thoughts or direction on making sure that the plugin supports a custom content type?
