• Hello.

First of all, thank you for a terrific forum. I think it’s very important to recognize the tremendous work you’ve put into this, and believe me, when my next paycheck comes, I’ll donate. Absolutely terrific.

I do have a few issues that you may be able to help me with.

    First and foremost:

The tiny X’s.. What do I do? They appear on Chrome and IE, but not FireFox. It seems that I am missing pictures, but I downloaded the entire package of ElegantPress, the skin I use.

Secondly, and I know this may be out of your hands, the forum can not be viewed properly on mobile devices. Is there a setting or an additional plug-in I can use?

And finally – wow, I am truly sorry for just piling on like this. Trust me, I wasn’t kidding, I DO love your forum. Don’t get the wrong idea šŸ˜‰ – I was wondering if my users can get a different way to log in than having to go through WordPress? I see some people have mentioned this, and you mentioned a new update or version, but I’m unsure if this version has been published yet.

Anyway. That’s all, and once again, I thank you for a tremendous product. Truly wonderful. Easy to post, easy to read, great overview. Very nice!

  • I did actually install and tested it, but Styling was also my issue.

I didn’t actually mess around with it for too long so I didn’t really try other options.

Hey Morten, after trials and errors, I managed to make progress with Vanilla Forums, I was lucky to find a video on youtube explaining how to properly connect the forum with WordPress. If you are interested in trying Vanilla forums, here is what I did.

I started with a one click install of Vanilla Forums by contacting Bluehost who hosts my website. I’m not sure which hosting you are using but chances are they provide one click install of Vanilla Forums.

After installing the forum follow the instructions of this video to connect it to wordpress

After the forum has been connected to wordpress you then need to login to vanilla forums and activate <Embed> Vanilla plugin. After activating click on settings on the plugin and copy the Embed code and paste it on whichever page you want the forum to appear on within wordpress.

I am now looking for a theme that matches my website….. Will report back on any updates.

Cool, thanks. I was looking at Simple Machine forums, but it seemed to be difficult to integrate with WordPress.

What’s your URL so I can check it out?

I’ve been testing out the available themes and doing a few tweaks to make the theme fit properly within my website..

Arh. I have a set theme, so I need to make Vanilla work under that design. But it does seem like it has a theme option.

Yes it does, here is a link to go check out some of the available themes, I have tried about 10 different themes before settling.

Also Vanilla Forums has tons of plugins including social media and other stuff. It seem far superior to some of the options we have tried earlier.

I’m sure you will find something to fix your current theme.

A major selling point for Vanilla is the mobile adaptability. My user have long complained about a lack of mobile version.

AND it’s supported by Tapatalk to boot.

Yeah, Vanilla is definitely the front-runner right now. Absolutely.

    Nice site, BTW!

    Thanks man.

Have to admit, though. It’s not particular easy to configure onto WordPress. I’ve yet been able to display Vanilla on my page, even after posting the embedded script code and being verified.

did you watch the video on youtube?

The guy who posted the youtube video added a link to download a file which is critical to linking wordpress to vanilla. you have to use his file for it to work, in fact the official vanilla plugin for wordpress is useless.

    (@mortenjensen)

Oh. I got the impression he was talking about the single sign-on issue. My mistake.

Yeah, you are correct he was actually addressing the single sign on issue only, in fact maybe the guy who posted the video didn’t even realize how critical his files were to the entire process of linking vanilla to wordpress.

Then I’m going to go through that entire process and see what happens.

You know what annoys me the most? That phpBB forum isn’t easily linked nor integrated to WordPress – It’s my absolute favorite forum and sooo easy to modify when you get the hang of it. If there had been a bridge to it, it would have been perfect.

I’m actually not familiar with phpBB forum.
