I’m having the same problem, CF7 5.0, WP 4.9.4, Email before Download 5.1.1 but has to be deactivated otherwise can’t access Admin Login from any other machine. (Luckily I was still logged in on mine and did the same one-at-a-time disabling plug-ins before Email before Download identified as the problem.)
BUT while deactivated nobody can download pdfs from my site. Help!
If you are getting anything like the following errors:
Call to a member function setAttribute() on null in /wp-content/plugins/email-before-download/includes/class-email-before-download-form.php on line 51
or
Call to a member function insertBefore() on null in /wp-content/plugins/email-before-download/includes/class-email-before-download-form.php on line 61
then it’s most likely due to the plugin assuming that you wrap your inputs with p tags. So if you change your form to use p tags then it should start working again. :/
I get neither of those errors π
When I try and download a document, I get this on the page – (the code but not the download!)
To receive an email containing a link to download a PDF version of xxxxx, please complete this short form:
[email-download download_id=β12835β³ contact_form_id=β6725β³]
If I activate the plugin to allow download, we get the following error when trying to log back in: Internal Server Error. The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator at webmaster@this.domain to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.
I get the same thing as @katieh4 – the activated plug-in is crashing the site to a 500 error.
@katieh4, I’m beating my head against a wall with this. I also have an error message on my plugins menu that says “Easy Digital Downloads needs to complete a database upgrade that was previously started, click here to resume the upgrade.” Working on that separately, but if you have that too, maybe it’s a related issue.
Also, I was wondering if you wanted to compare notes to see if it’s a plug-in interaction or the like. Here’s what I have active:

Akismet Anti-Spam
Autoptimize (although the problem started before this installation)
Contact Form 7

Hi Nick
I ended up emailing the developer directly and this is their reply:
My name is Chris and Iβm the developer working on EBD. I will be pushing an update shortly that should address a lot of issues people are having.
If youβre still have issues after the new version is out, please feel free to email me directly or use the support forum on WordPress.org and Iβll help if I can.
Thank you.
Chris Reed.
Letβs hope this helps us both!
Thank you Katie and thank you Chris Reed wherever you are!
Hello all
I appreciate the patience as we get the bugs worked out of this new version of EBD. We will be pushing an update soon that I hope will address your issues.
Downloaded the update and it fixed my issues. Thanks!
Lucky you! Didn’t work for me…. π
I take that back! Working again, now the Custom Sender for Email Before Download plugin not working. Wondering if I can just leave this deactivated!
@katieh4
That may be an issue with your host not letting you use a custom email address.
But I will look and see if it’s something in the code.
Thank you. This is the other plugin I have: Custom Sender for Email Before Download
Activate | Delete
The plugin lets you set your custom sender for the Email Before Download (version 3.3) plugin.
Version 0.1 | By Andras Guseo | View details
If I now activate this (EBD is now activated) I get the 500 error….
Custom Sender is a plugin developed by another developer. They may need to update it to work with the new version of EBD. But EBD now offers the option to add a custom email address, so they may not bother updating it.
I think I’ll delete it. I just noticed the custom sender settings in EBD! Thanks M&S!
