Attributes type text removed in 3.3 ?!?!?!

I am absolutely flabbergasted at the decision to remove the type setting for global attributes, seemingly made by Mike Jolly and starkly defended by Caleb Burks.

Please read these posts to underline my point:
– Product attribute type has changed after WC update
– Attributes all set to “Select” after update 3.3
– Updated to 3.3.1 and text attributes now all select type

A couple of things;
– This planned regression in functionality is totally undocumented in the release notes and there is no explanation as to why this decision has been made
– Being condescending to people’s needs and use cases and basically calling people idiots as Caleb mostly does is just plain rude
– The change is disruptive with no choice for the user, and is in no way reasonable for a point release
– This change is definitely user hostile, there is no two ways about it

I shouldn’t need to be stating the obvious, but now let me argue for why the need for global attributes of the type text is absolutely necessary:
– EAN codes: Guaranteed unique, and needed on potentially all products
– Measurements: volumes, pH-values, viscosities etc.
– Descriptive fields: Dosages, usage descriptions etc.
The list can be made much longer, but above should suffice to at least get a well argued reason as to why this ill conceived decision has been made.
