Extending Invisible reCaptcha

Here are some useful hooks to help developers integrate Invisible reCaptcha with any plugin or custom form

Actions

- google_invre_render_widget_action - renders the recaptcha widget

Filters

- google_invre_is_valid_request_filter - used to check if Google approved the request (returns bool true/false)
- google_invre_widget_output_html_filter - used to change the recaptcha widget output
- google_invre_language_code_filter - used to change the badge/challenge language code
- google_invre_badge_position_filter - used to change the badge position (possible returning values are: 'bottomright', 'bottomleft', 'inline')

Examples of using Invisible reCaptcha hooks

  • Add Invisible reCaptcha into any form

    Just call
    do_action(‘google_invre_render_widget_action’);
    anywhere before form closing tag

  • Validate form post request

    $is_valid = apply_filters(‘google_invre_is_valid_request_filter’, true);
    if( ! $is_valid )
    {
    // handle error here
    }
    else
    {
    // continue with your logic
    }

  • Change the badge/challenge language code

    add_filter( ‘google_invre_language_code_filter’, ‘myprefix_change_recaptcha_language’ );
    function myprefix_change_recaptcha_language($language_code){
    $language_code = ‘fr’; // French
    return $language_code;
    }

Reviews

Bad performance

Tested performance at GTmetrix a few times on my site with plugin activated adds, on average: 1.5 seconds load time, 280KB page size, and 26 requests! Should worry anyone interested in SEO.

Comprehensive coverage

Very nice that the plug-in covers virtually all popular extensions (BuddyPress, Contact Forms, WooCommerce).

To compare with peers: BuddyPress registration form protection is available only in premium version of Google Captcha (reCAPTCHA) by BestWebSoft and as to SI Captcha Anti-Spam, its relatively simple captcha is easily broken by bots (e.g. I had a really annoying one, which registered fake users with “Wox” at the end of user name).

The only improvement suggestion: why only Invisible reCaptcha?!
Sometimes I would like to have an old good one visible captcha 🙂

Not Suitable for Multisite

Last week we installed, got all the Mapped Domains set up on the recaptcha site, all was well…

Until this week, when the Super Admin was able to log into every sub-site, but NOT the Primary Site.

The Invisible Recaptcha plugin would not allow the Super Admin to log into the Network Admin or the Primary website and was throwing an “Invalid Username or Password” error. Once the plugin was disabled via FTP, we were then able to access the Network Admin.

Ugh, I hope they can correct this issue. ..perhaps it’s just limited to us?

WP Multisite: v.4.9.1
PHP: 7.0

Works great

Is very easy to setup, and works everywhere.

The only thing i would recommend is to add instructions of how create recaptcha keys (an link would help) and maybe an recaptcha generator (maybe something on recaptcha api – iframes, etc).

Another thing, add an custom message for contact form 7 when it fails because of recaptcha.
