    thanks mighty_mt i did find out about those plugins that change the author slug and have installed one and it works perfectly.

    apologies to ryu theme, but it still seems awfully strange that the WP core would do that by default, don\’t you think?

    i also installed the exploit scanner plugin and ran it… it came up with this – a 12KB php file modified under the guise of a png

    pinkbits_hdr_old.php.pngg

    part of the code (picked up by exploit scanner) was this:

    }elseif(function_exists(‘shell_exec’)){
    $out = @shell_exec($c);

    anyway i’ve killed it now, but i strongly counsel people to install this plugin cause i have neither the patience nor the expertise to go trhough all my file and recognise stuff like this

    gangleri – if you likei can send you the entire php script? or post it here perhaps? it doesn’t make sense to me…

    thanks for all your help

    ok now this gets even stranger… all of a sudden its working! both with the default WP theme as well as with my custom one…

    this is what the hosting support said (mediatemple BTW, who went out of their way to help me considering it was not strictly a hosting issue)

    Very strange indeed. I ran some tests and everything looked to be functioning normal. I went ahead and enabled SSH access (you can disable this at any time in your Account Center), and also error logging. You can see your error log at: /logs/error_log.

    I tailed your log and found that when I visited “boredomisyourfault.com” this error popped up (after a long time, of course:)

    [Mon Jul 28 06:43:06 2008] [error] [client 74.6.18.246] Premature end of script headers: php4

    This could mean anything. Anything from an unending loop to improper syntax in a required() file. The fact that the page takes AGES to fail might mean there is some kind of looping conflict, possibly between two of your plugins. I would try disabling those plugins and then giving it another go.

    anyway i have turned off a few plugins and deleted the wp-caching one altogether for good measure.

    i have a redirect on the root to go to /blog. i think its with a .htaccess script but it might also be a php redirect… anyway that seems to work, its just the blog bit that doesn’t…

    and no, there is no wp installation on the root, only on the /blog

    i just did delete all the files (well at least everything except the ones that it says to keep in the wp upgrade manual = http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress_Extended#Overview_of_the_Upgrade_Process )

    i guess i could do it again, i just can’t understand what it will achieve?

    hi there – i have recently been hacked as well, and i am considering doing the same thing as you – starting again with just the db content

    trouble is i have no idea how to do it? anyone have any ideas?

    i have also deleted a user in mysql db called “WordPress” that i know i did not put there… but i can’t understand what to do now?

    i’ve upgraded to 2.6, overwrote the custom theme so it no longer exists and am therefore running as clean a version of wp as i can imagine – but it is still not working?!?!?!

    funnily enough the 404 page still works, brings up the correct archives/cats/pages sidebar etc but nothing else will load 🙁
