I’m having almost the same issue.
In my case, the plugin is editing the .htaccess but the user from Google Images is being redirected to “image-not-found” page, instead of specific image’s attachment page. Tried downgrading wordpress. But still no luck. 🙁

There’s another issue, The sitemap isn’t updating automatically after every new published post. I have to re-generate it everytime.
Any solution for that?
