I think the best way to solve your problem is hiring a programmer to create your own theme, OR, you can start learning how to create one. I was like you before, then I decided to design and code my own.

If you read some threads you will find out that you need at least 6 posts to have posts under the slideshow. 5 latest post will be in slideshow others will be under it if i am not mistaken..
