Dear Pioneer Valley Web Design,
Thank you for the tip/reminder to deactivate my plugins and then reactivate them one-by-one.
The problem plugin was Better WP Security.
When Better WP Security is deactivated then the Editor tab under Appearance appears normally.
When Better WP Security is active then the Editor tab under Appearance does not appear. I will need to do some testing to see if an option within Better WP Security can be turned off to make the Editor tab appear when Better WP Security is active or if the whole plugin is a problem.
Your advice was most helpful.

Thank you for the tip. That was exactly the solution. It is so simple once you know what to look for.
My slideshow is working perfectly.
