Started poking through all of the settings, found one in settings>>media:
Uploads folder:
/var/www/wjowsa/wp-content/uploads
Changed to
/var/www/html/wp-content/uploads
works fine now.
tried 775, 766, 767, 777, same result. wont even make the new directory.
it SHOULD be a text widget, with the code in it, but I can’t seem to get it to work that way yet.
