  • Judging from the post, it would seem that these hits bring only paranoia–and no factual proof of anything. Reinstalling an entire WordPress setup because of it seems a bit overboard to me…

I know I’m late to the game here, but yes, I just came across this today when I was debugging some things (I think it’s just a Firebug thing).

samboll – Let me make sure I understand you correctly: you’re advice is to CHMOD to 777 the new month’s folder (02) and then reset the permissions back to 755? And you’re saying that I will only have to do this once for each month’s folder? In doing this for each month, will I be able to upload from that point, on, with each month folder without having to CHMOD to 777 each time I wish to make an upload for that given month’s folder??? Thanks for any feedback.

henkholland – Thanks for the input. I’ll give that a try.

Oh, and perusing through the MySQL tables, I saw that the URL for the uploads path seemed perfectly fine so I shouldn’t have to go into Miscellaneous and type in “wp-content/uploads” as the default is already that.

Lastly, I have received the following error when trying to upload anything new:

Upload Error: Image – Unable to create directory /home/website/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2010/02. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

Which again, points to the server, but it seems as if the only way to fix this damn thing is by either using the horrible approach of 777 or else by possibly un-ticking the “Organize my folders by year” thing…

    HELP!

Oh, fear not for I, too, have frequently experienced this. I’ve been searching far and wide for the solution (which just doesn’t exist until some newbie comes on here to inform us all of the wonderful joy that is 777).

    Here’s my two cents…

I told someone else “around here” that they had too much subordination. I think that’s you too. As Madonna would say, “Express YOURSELF!” :.|

Add some images, maybe even tweek what you have a bit more. Try to place your content before the header, and even consider adding a third column. Why? Because there aren’t many good WordPress sites out there that have this, as well as faux columns.

It’s most likely something that was added by the “Visual Rich” editor that WordPress is addicted to.

To turn it off, go to “Options” in your control panel or admin area. Then, click on “Writing” underneath it. You’ll then see a box which gives you the ability to disable the use of the editor by either checking or un-checking it.

You’ll also want to go to “Users” and on your profile page, scroll down to “Personal Options”, and make sure there is no check on “Use the visual rich editor when writing”. This should alleviate any further woes of WordPress for you.

Let me know if it does not.
    Cheers!

Not too bad, but it’s very subordinated. Use more of the space. Also, get away from the tables and use CSS. It’s much better, has easier updating capabilities, and is fun to work with. You should never use tables for page layout unless you’re displaying data results from some sort of processing.

I recommend a book called “Zen Garden”. It will get you on the right path:

It’s using WordPress. Check out the source, and then look at the CSS directory path…

    Newsletter plug-in anyone???

@ Lorelle: You’re status-quo visitor is about as familiar with RSS feeds as Jeffrey Dahmer is with being a vegan.

If the problem here is switching cookies, then it’s still a problem because not everyone who visits your site is going to know how to do this. This is like placing a “To view this site, use Firefox” ad on your homepage.

After looking through so many posts about this issue, I’ve come to the conclusion that the hosting service is the problem. Otherwise, it’s WordPress.

I too have been battling the same issue as dave38, and just like he said, it works in IE if you lower your security or use the full-version URL.

Does anyone know of a fix to this!? It’s silly to have to use ONLY Firefox or do all these different things to fix this. I’ve heard that forwarding isn’t the same thing as using some sort of “Park server”, but I’m not too knowledgable about any of this.

    PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!

I’m having a problem with that too. Whenever I try to login with IE, my browser just seems to “flicker” and then the password that WAS in asteriks seems to disapear and then it just sits there. The only difference between the above and my own issue is that I RECEIVE NO ERROR MESSAGES.

Anyone know whats going on??? I was wondering if it had something to do with “park servers” due to domain names, but then again, I saw a post about this on this site that said some things about PHP being the culprit…

    HELP!
