Thanks for your reply. I have looked at it but not tried it yet as I was following the info on the codex ‘using permalink’ page. I thought that using the %category% way was called less pretty and has some issues with it, but please correct me if I am wrong.

    Hi try this

    2. If you need/want the index.php to be there, then on the Settings->Permalinks screen, add some values in for the category and tag bases. The words “category” and “tag” will do just fine. As long as they are not blank, this should work around the bug.

No 1 suggested removing the index.php but that didn’t work for me but the above did.

Hi, you can also try putting something in the category and tag spaces in the permalink page. I just used category and tag and got rid of my 404 problem.

Hi Andy, I just seen this from another forum but relates to this forum. Not sure it will work for you but you can try. Who knew it was an index problem ? I haven’t tried it as way past my bedtime but will try tomorrow but have a look.

Many people have reported permalinks not working after upgrading to 2.6. In all cases, these people have permalink structures that contain “index.php”. This is a bug, detailed here: http://trac.wordpress.org/ticket/7306

    Temporary fixes:

    1. If you’re using Linux/Apache on your webserver, you don’t really need the index.php anyway. Try removing it. The index.php thing was only meant for IIS servers, which don’t support mod_rewrite.

    2. If you need/want the index.php to be there, then on the Settings->Permalinks screen, add some values in for the category and tag bases. The words “category” and “tag” will do just fine. As long as they are not blank, this should work around the bug.

    3. (For advanced users only) If you want to patch the problem yourself, there is a fix available in trac ticket 7306.

The upcoming release of WordPress 2.6.1 will correct this issue.

    Hi Andy,
I am having the same sort of problem but there is nobody that can help us. Nobody has posted a reply yet. I have also posted this in a MySql forum, just in case it was a problem with that but no joy yet. If you find a solution please let me know.

    Good Luck

Hi there, what a coincidence I am having this type of problem as well. I have just put in a new post with a page break and I can see the first paragraph but when I hit read more I get a 404 and this happens with all the other posts on the front page. Some are only a week old. I checked through the archive and have found this problem with that as well.

Anybody got any ideas? I have had a look into the MySQL but it is double dutch to me.

    Hi Backyardman,

Ive just tried it and it works. Thanks very much. It is not quite in the exact place but I will try to work around it. It is definitely better though.

    Hi podz,

Thanks for the reply. I have seen the usual spammers comments and have dealt with them accordingly. It was just that they put these references of my wp-includes that got me worried. Also, it appears to have come from two different sources, although I suppose the same person will have a multitude of aliases.

Well I guess I can sleep a bit easier in my bed now.

Sorry, I didn’t think it would be relevant. The link is

I usually use ‘Smooth Dirt’ as a theme but I have reverted to Kubrick, just incase it was the theme that was causing the problem.

At the moment anywhere I can get it in, although I guess it would be in a side bar on the home page and along the bottom of the page where the full page of text is, if that is possible.
