Okay – found the answer:

This time I moved these (newly edited) templates to my theme so they don’t overwritten in an upgrade.
I forgot to say I am using NextGEN gallery with the NextGEN custom fields plugin by Shaun Alberts.
Could I get some help with this? Thank you.
I have since deactivated all plugins, rebuilt image URLs, updated permalinks, changed themes, but still the images don’t go to the custom URL.
