Hi, I’m having the same problem and I’m struggling with this.
In this case just go to Appearance -> Menus. Create a new top level custom link menu item called ‘Participate’ and set the link to # (i.e. don’t provide a specific link). – I DID THIS
Then drag all your sub-menu items to be under this new top level menu item, and delete the old ‘Participate’ menu item. Save your changes. – I ALSO DID THIS BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING
