Hi, thanks for your replies. I found the route directory by myself in the end.

In case there are any other newbies out there with this problem, this is what you need to know to find your ‘root directory’

Firstly the ‘root directory’ is nothing more than a file, don’t know why it is not just called a file so that beginners know what they are looking for but there you go.

The other thing you need to know is that it will contain all the files that have a wp- prefix, such as wp-content etc. So once you find a file containing lots of other files with wp- prefixes you have found your root directory.

Armed with this knowledge I went into the files section of my c panel and clicked around on a few files until I found the one containing all the wp- files. Hey presto this file is your ‘root directory’

Thanks for the constructive reply Curtis. My site host is TSOhost and my WordPress site was installed using a Sofaculous app. I didn’t have to specify a folder to install the WordPress software into, Sofaculous just did it all, hence I don’t know where the mystery root directory is.

Am I right in thinking that as no one can tell me where to look it is not in a folder that can be found on my cpanel?

Sorry if these questions seem stupid but I have never set up a web site before and we all have to start somewhere.

If I knew where to look then I would. I am not asking questions because I have nothing better to do with myself.

I have looked and can only find the three different root directories already mentioned.

I am not sure why you are replying to this post if you do not know where it should be.

    I have absolutely no idea.

When I installed wordpress on Tsohost I used the provided utility and I did not have to choose any folders to install WordPress in it was all done automatically as it were, hence I don’t have a clue what folder it was uploaded to on the server.
