In reply to: [Twenty Sixteen] General Theme question – Twenty TenYou can go straight to Twenty Sixteen but with most theme changes things are not likely to look quite right as every theme has a different “out of the box” look. You can download a new theme and then preview your site in the customiser, before make the theme live.
I do a little preliminary testing by creating a sub-domain, downloading the theme I want, copying a few pages (including menus and sidebars with their widgets) from the original site and seeing how it looks.
Ensure you use a child theme for any CSS customisation or any changes you make will be lost when a theme author releases a new version of the theme you are using.

In reply to: [Twenty Sixteen] General Theme question – Twenty TenTwenty Sixteen is a mobile friendly theme, as are all WordPress default themes from Twenty Twelve on. Google says that it may give a ranking boost to websites that are mobile friendly and that alone is a good enough reason to change to Twenty Sixteen, or to another mobile ready theme.
I am sure you would be pleased with Twenty Sixteen although I feel it needs a bit of css customisation to get looking right.

Makes me worry about my main big website, although it is backed up daily.

In reply to: [Twenty Twelve] Editing a page to be more Mobile FriendlyI wonder if it could be because you have specified pixel widths in your tables cells. That displays fine on desktop machines but messes up in the mobile phone display. I typically leave the cell pixel widths blank which means that they should collapse correctly when viewed on a phone. Additionally, one font size smaller in the table data may help.

In reply to: [Twenty Twelve] How implement Google Adsense properly?It sounds to me like you made your changes directly in the Twenty Twelve parent theme instead of creating a child theme and making changes there. If that was the case, your changes would have been over-written when Twenty Twelve was updated.

The lockout to the above site and to my dashboard lasted approx. 10 minutes, with the same wording showing up for the site and dash. Now I have full access and the message about an automated WP update has gone, so a mystery to me.

Clicking the hyperlink won’t make the message go away.
