This plugin doesn’t appear to make “automatically” show up, but it does allow you make FTPed file appear in the Media Library.

Haven’t used it, but know someone who say it does what it say it does.
I’m having the same issue. The Events Calendar is wider than my sidebar so it forces the entire sidebar to the bottom of the page. This happens in IE7, looks fine in FF 3.0
Also like doobiefillin, my calendar page days are different widths in both IE and FF.
