Pukkascott, thanks for sharing. Sorry I have nothing more to add — I dumped the Sell Media plugin about six months ago.

Haven’t yet tried Flemming’s suggestion, as it seems to apply to pre-1.9.11 Sell Media iteration. Here’s my problem: I’m running Sell Media 1.9.12 on my version 4.1 WP site, and it works great EXCEPT for not clearing completed PayPal sales. By that, I mean that purchases made via PayPal collect funds from buyers and distribute files to buyers appropriately … but then it gets weird. First, the purchased item(s) remain in the buyer’s cart. Then, both buyer and site admin get a flurry of emails from my site. In live mode, the buyer gets multiple download emails (I switched to test mode after six), and Sell Media reports duplicate sales every couple minutes. I nearly collapsed when it looked as if my first paying customer had been charged $180 instead of the $30 he authorized.

I’ve quadruple-checked my PayPal IPN settings. I’ve tried disabling other plugins. I even tried deleting Sell Media and reinstalling it … but it still exhibits the problem behavior. Could it be a flaw in one of the tables? Is anyone else running Sell Media with WP 4.1, and if so, how’s it working for you?
