I tried that first. Their forum said that because my blog wasn’t hosted at wordpress.com I had to ask here. The system automatically closed the thread there.
Understood. However, my front page was not set as a static page. That’s why I can’t figure out the problem.

For whatever reason, when I changed the one page on my site that had been marked “Private” to public but password protected, everything fixed itself.
If there is an explanation for why I cannot use private pages, I’d still be interested to hear from the experts. Thanks!
