Thank you all for your help and advice.
And I should ad — I never had this problem before WP 5.8 — the widgets worked fine and displayed properly, even with AdGuard turned on, in WP 5.7 and earlier. Does WP 5.8 handle widgets differently (with Classic Widgets installed) such that AdGuard would see them as ads rather than as widgets?
Thanks, Michelle. I deleted browser cache and cookies for this site, and the problem persisted. But in doing so, I noticed a key difference. I have AdGuard enabled on my personal Edge profile. It is not installed in Chrome, Firefox, Opera, or in my work profile in Edge — only in my Edge personal profile. And AdGuard was enabled, and was showing that some “ads” had been blocked on the site, even though there are no ads at all in the traditional sense. I disable AdGuard on the site, and, lo and behold, these two widgets displayed! It appears, therefore, that the “injected stylesheet” I mentioned in the original post must be coming from AdGuard, and that it was AdGuard that has been blocking the widgets. Has anyone heard of AdGuard being sensitive to particular widgets before? Anyway, my problem is fixed. I can’t believe I spent so much time trying to diagnose an issue that was fixed by two mouse clicks!
Thanks, Dan. Your message made me investigate further. I normally browse the web using Edge in my personal profile. What I found is that if I look at the site in Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge in an InPrivate window, or Edge in my work profile, I DO see the widgets I mention. It is only if I look at the site in Edge using my personal profile that the widgets don’t display. Any idea what might cause that?
